NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson Releases Statement on Supreme Court Blocking Democrats’ Last-Minute Ad Meddling
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court officially blocked Democrats’ attempt to upend the rules for political advertising just weeks before Election Day:
“Today’s ruling stops Democrats’ last-minute attempt to rewrite the rules and preserves stability for candidates, broadcasters, and voters in the final stretch of the election. The ruling has protected candidates’ core political speech, and the NRCC is proud to have defended that principle before the nation’s highest court.”
Background:
- Earlier this year, Democrats challenged longstanding FCC guidance ensuring candidates have access to favorable advertising rates when advertising with political parties. In September, the Supreme Court blocked a federal appeals court ruling that would have disrupted those rates in the final weeks before Election Day.
- Democrats subsequently returned to court seeking to force the FCC to rule on their challenge immediately, potentially reopening the dispute before the election. Today, the Supreme Court again intervened, blocking the appeals court’s order and preserving the existing advertising rules during the final weeks of the election.
- The NRCC led and funded the legal efforts in the NRCC v. Brown case.
