Portland’s Longtime Congressman Claims Lindsay James

October 28, 2026

Lindsay James wants Iowans to believe she’s one of them. Portland just claimed her as its own.

In a story published today by The Oregonian, longtime Portland Congressman Earl Blumenauer hailed James as part of “a renaissance” in the Democratic Party, said Portland’s values were “part of our DNA,” and argued those values carry over to districts like Iowa’s 2nd.

Iowans should take him at his word.

James grew up in the Portland suburbs and came to Iowa via Boston. She can change her address, but she can’t hide her values.

Portland is what happens when liberals get everything they want: high taxes, rising crime, failed schools, and leaders who can’t fix their own streets. And Lindsay James’ record reads like it was written in Portland:

  • She voted against cutting Iowans’ income taxes.
  • She voted against letting Iowa parents use education savings accounts to choose their kids’ schools.
  • She fought to let doctors give puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors.
  • As House Minority Whip, she’s the No. 2 Democrat in the Iowa House, the one whipping votes for the left’s agenda.
  • And she couldn’t be bothered to show up for more than half her votes this past year.

When The Oregonian asked James about her Portland roots, she declined to comment.

“When Portland’s longtime Congressman is vouching for your values, Iowans have heard everything they need to know. Lindsay James can move to Iowa, but she can’t hide her Portland politics. Iowans want lower taxes and safer streets, not a Portland liberal with an Iowa address.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Emily Tuttle
