Nation: Romney Writes Checks to Targets of DCCC

February 4, 2009

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) announced Monday that he is cutting $1,000 checks from his political action committee to help a group of House Republicans being targeted for their vote against the stimulus bill.

The checks come as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released their latest round of attacks against a group of 12 GOP Members on Monday, part of their Putting Families First grass-roots campaign.

“Did you know [Member’s name] voted against President Obama’s economic recovery plan, endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?” says an announcer in the automated robocalls that are running in the 12 districts. “[Member’s] empty rhetoric can’t hide that he voted to raise the AMT tax on 22 million middle class Americans and against the largest tax cut in history.”

The Members who are being targeted by the DCCC and will be receiving checks from Romney’s Free and Strong America PAC are Reps. Judy Biggert (Ill.), Ken Calvert (Calif.), Mike Castle (Del.), Charlie Dent (Pa.), Jim Gerlach (Pa.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), Blaine Luetkemeyer (Mo.), Dan Lungren (Calif.), Thaddeus McCotter (Mich.), Dave Reichert (Wash.) and Pete Sessions (Texas)…
