GOP to donors: Don't let Dems 'pull a Franken' in NY House election
The special election yesterday to fill a House seat in New York is in limbo for at least two weeks while absentee ballots come in. But Republicans didn’t wait to start fundraising.
“Don’t let ’em pull a Franken,” was the headline on a fundraising e-mail that arrived at 1 a.m. today — about two hours after it became clear the race between Democrat Scott Murphy and Republican Jim Tedisco would be too close to call.
“We cannot afford to allow Democrats to steal this election,” wrote Guy Harrison, executive director of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Current status of the race is Murphy ahead by 65 votes out of nearly 155,000 cast. Click here to read USA TODAY’s take on the contest, including the diametrically opposed lessons drawn by Democratic Party chairman Tim Kaine and NRCC chairman Pete Sessions.
