GOP Has a Candidate to Challenge Kosmas

The GOP has found a candidate to run against freshman U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, who was singled out by national Republican officials as a top target for the party.

Winter Park City Commissioner Karen Diebel filed with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday to challenge Kosmas for the District 24 seat centered on the Space Coast and the eastern side of the Orlando area. Diebel isn’t well known in the state’s political establishment, and a press release said she is just “a mother who wants to ensure a bright future for my three children” and “a businesswoman who wants to create local jobs.”

Florida Democratic Party Spokesman Eric Jotkoff was dismissive, saying Diebel’s behavior in the past had been “unstable.”

“Central Floridians are looking for more than failed policies and old ideas; they expect steady, common-sense leadership during these difficult economic times, which is exactly why they elected Suzanne Kosmas,” Jotkoff said…

… The Republican Party likes that the district has a GOP registration advantage and voted for John McCain, albeit very narrowly, last year.
