Scozzafava Wants Harley in NY

Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava (R, I, WF – Gouverneur) today sent a letter to the President and COO of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company encouraging the motorcycle maker to relocate its largest manufacturing facility to upstate New York. The motorcycle giant is currently considering relocating its largest facility from Pennsylvania to one of a handful of potential sites in the Midwest.

In her letter, Scozzafava said upstate New York should be added to the list, citing upstate New York’s strengths, including a skilled and stable manufacturing workforce, a robust college network, low-cost power and a competitive program for providing economic incentives to proven job-creators as reasons why the company should give the area consideration.

Scozzafava cited Advance Micro Devices’ (AMD) decision to invest in a multi-billion dollar facility in Saratoga County as an example of the state’s willingness to work with job creators to relocate to the Empire State.

“Recently, New York State awarded one of the most aggressive incentive packages in the state’s history to bring AMD to upstate New York. The end-result was AMD investing more than $4 billion to develop a 900,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that will lead to hundreds of good-paying, high-tech jobs. I’m sure we would see similar success bringing Harley-Davidson to the area,” explained Scozzafava.
