Teague the Tax Man Comes Calling Again

National Energy Tax Defender Wants to Put the Screws to New Mexico Taxpayers Once Again

Washington- Harry Teague has taken plenty of heat this summer for being an outspoken defender of Nancy Pelosi’s National Energy Tax. Now Teague is doubling down with his seeming support for yet another tax hike that could end up draining New Mexico families dry. Despite casting a possible career-ending vote in favor of the Democrats’ National Energy Tax scheme, Teague has gone on the record supporting a potential increase in the federal gas tax in order to pay for yet another bloated government giveaway:

“The possibility of an increase in the federal gas tax to fund transportation projects throughout the nation isn’t being ruled out, the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee said Wednesday.”

“Rep. Harry Teague, D-N.M., who serves on the committee with Oberstar, said the chairman has a long-term plan that would provide sustainable funding for federal transportation that merits consideration from Obama’s administration.”

“‘We need action now, and President Obama needs to work with Chairman Oberstar,’ Teague said.” (Steve Ramirez, “Gas Taxes Could Fund Road Repairs, Lawmaker Says,” Las Cruces Sun News, 8/20/09)

“Has Harry Teague ever met a tax hike that he didn’t like?” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “With New Mexico families and businesses already suffering through the consequences of Teague’s unbridled support for job-killing taxes and wasteful government spending, their Congressman continues to force his party’s reckless agenda down their throats. During these difficult times, Teague’s tax-hiking ways are a slap in the face to the people he is supposed to represent.”

With Washington Democrats seemingly planning new taxes at every turn in order to pay for their runaway government spending spree, will he ever manage put his constituents’ interests before party loyalty?
