Titus is Running out of Cards to Play as Las Vegas’ Unemployment Rate Soars to 13.1 Percent

Washington- With Las Vegas’ unemployment rate at 13.1 percent and 179,300 Nevadans out of work, Dina Titus’ inability to lead is becoming abundantly clear. Titus’ “yes” votes on the stimulus and the national energy tax are clear indications of the foggy thought process that has consumed her past months in Congress.

“Unfortunately for Nevadans, their Congresswoman Dina Titus is sincerely delusional and continues to gamble with their economic liability,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain.  “Rather than showing leadership and acknowledging her enormous error in voting for the Democrats’ many failed policies, she continues to play the cards Nancy Pelosi has dealt. And with Nevada’s unemployment at 13.1 percent, Nevadans can’t afford to lose much more.”

Nevadans aren’t seeing the recovery they were promised:

“The Las Vegas-Paradise metro area, including all of Clark County, has been particularly hard it, with an unemployment rate of 13.1 percent. It is not only the highest unemployment rate among Nevada’s metro areas, it also ranks in the top five across all areas of similar size in the U.S.” (Cy Ryan, Jobless rate leaps to 13.1 percent in Las Vegas, Las Vegas Sun, 8/21/2009)

With half of American voters doubting the stimulus will stimulate the economy, one would think that Titus is astute enough to catch their drift:

“A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found 57% of adults say the stimulus package is having no impact on the economy or making it worse. Even more —60% — doubt that the stimulus plan will help the economy in the years ahead, and only 18% say it has done anything to help improve their personal situation.” (Brad Heath, “Poll: 57% Don’t See Stimulus Working,” USA Today, 8/17/09)

Unfortunately, she’s not:

“Titus noted the tax cuts for 95 percent of Nevadans have “put extra money in the pockets of workers.”

The freshman congresswoman talked about the $13 million the state received from the recovery bill to develop green energy jobs, and the ‘more than $75 million to extend unemployment benefits for those struggling to find work.’” (Lisa Mascaro, “For summer recess, lawmaking to pause, not partisan sniping,” Las Vegas Sun, 8/02/2009)

As Dina Titus continues to gamble on Nevadans future, will she end up out of a job as well?
