Sickening Assertion: Michael Moore Proclaims Obama’s Public Option “Will Eventually Bring About a Single Payer System”
‘Sicko’ Filmmaker Michael Moore Reveals True Intention Behind Dem Healthcare Plan: “Obama Knows This”

Obama Said His Healthcare Overhaul Needs a Public Insurance Option to Enforce Market ‘Discipline’

“President Barack Obama said on Tuesday his healthcare overhaul needed a public insurance option to enforce market ‘discipline,’ but stopped short of saying he would veto legislation without one.

‘The public plan, I think, is an important tool to discipline insurance companies,’ Obama told a White House news conference. “I think there is going to be some healthy debate about the shape that this takes….

Republicans and private insurance companies have raised concerns over a public plan, arguing it would lead to a government takeover of the entire U.S. healthcare system and drive private insurance companies out of business.

Obama rejected that notion at his news conference.

‘If private insurers say that the marketplace provides the best quality health care; if they tell us that they’re offering a good deal, then why is it that the government, which they say can’t run anything, suddenly is going to drive them out of business? That’s not logical,’ he said. “They should be able to compete.’ ” (David Alexander and Donna Smith, “Obama: Health reform needs public insurer option,” Reuters, 6/23/2009)

Credibility Crash: Michael Moore Asserts: ‘If a true public option is enacted – and Obama knows this – it will eventually bring about a single payer system’

Filmmaker Michael Moore, who directed Sicko, discusses health care reform in the current issue of Rolling Stone:

“If a true public option is enacted — and Obama knows this — it will eventually bring about a single payer system, because the profit-making insurance companies won’t be able to compete with a government run plan and make the profits they want to make.”

Moore adds: “I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but I’m counting on the fact that Republicans won’t be reading this Rolling Stone.” (“Michael Moore on the Public Option,” CQ Politics: Political Wire, 8/11/2009)
