Tim Bishop Would Rather Be Wined And Dined Than Listen To His Constituents

After Cancelling His Town Halls, Bishop Now Has Time For Fundraisers

Washington- After freeing himself of summer town halls, Bishop finally has time to attend fancy fundraisers and rub elbows with the likes of Bill Clinton and New York Rep. Israel. Perhaps for Bishop, raising money takes precedent over hearing the concerns of his constituents. With extensive national coverage focusing on Americans concerns with a government takeover of healthcare, one would think Bishop would want to hear if his constituents share that sentiment.

After cancelling his town halls, he won’t have the chance to:

Rep. Tim Bishop (D., N.Y.) stopped holding town-hall meetings after a June event.” (Janet Adamy and Naftali Bendavid, “Lawmakers Rethink Town Halls”, The Wall Street Journal, 8/08/2009)

“Bishop’s choice to attend fundraisers and rub elbows with party big wigs rather than hold town halls sends a strong message to New York families about where his priorities are,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Rather than gathering campaign cash, Bishop should be gathering the concerns of his constituents regarding his party’s unpopular government-run healthcare takeover.”

Tim Bishop is scheduled to attend a September fundraising event with Bill Clinton, prominent businessmen, and congressional colleagues:

“One week after President Bill Clinton had to postpone an event in support of Rep. Steve Israel the 42nd president of the United States rescheduled the event. Clinton will be at the home of Marty and Laurie Scheinman in Sands Point on Sept. 14 to help raise funds for the Dix Hills Democrat’s re-election campaign.

Barbara and Lou Meltzer, Bert Brodsky, Kirk Kordeleski and Michael Dowling are among the business leaders listed on the invite. Reps. Tim Bishop, Gary Ackerman and Carolyn McCarthy are also expected to be on hand.” (“Rep. Israel’s Clinton event rescheduled”, Polit Bureau, 8/10/2009)

Hopefully Bishop’s photo op and wine and dine session with Bill Clinton is worth it, because his constituents won’t forget where they sit on their congressman’s list of priorities.
