Childers-Pelosi Agenda Continues To Fall Flat With High Unemployment
Jobless Rate Remains High as Childers and Co. Push Forward with Reckless Agenda

Washington– For another consecutive month, families in Mississippi and across the country are feeling the devastating consequences of Travis Childers’ big-spending agenda. With the national unemployment rate remaining well above nine percent in July and an additional 247,000 jobs lost, it’s clear that Childers’ loyal servitude to Nancy Pelosi and the rest of his anti-jobs Democrat leaders has done little to revive the country’s struggling economy.

“For all of his runaway spending and political maneuvering, Travis Childers still hasn’t answered a simple question: Where are the jobs?” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Childers might be patting himself on the back as the ever-increasing unemployment rate actually stalled, but the fact remains that millions of Americans have lost their jobs as a result of a devastating recession and Democrats continue to try to sell an explosion in spending and big-government growth as the solution to the country’s problems. Childers and his party leaders promised Mississippi families that relief was on the way when they voted to nearly bankrupt the country with a trillion-dollar spending spree, but today’s announcement is further proof that the so-called stimulus has failed to live up to Childers’ empty promises.”

Just a few months after the stimulus bill was signed into law, Americans recognized that Childers’ runaway spending spree was intended to stimulate little more than big government. Democrat leaders in Washington pledged that the coming days would actually yield results. According to the White House:

“Looking ahead, an additional 600,000 jobs are expected to be created or saved under the Recovery Act in the next 100 days and billions of dollars in contracts and grants are expected to be awarded in the coming months.” (“Vice President Biden Delivers First Quarterly Report to the President on Recovery Act Progress,” White House Press Release, 5/13/09)

With no real progress to show since May, Childers and his Democrat cohorts will have a difficult time reaching the 600,000 mark promised to the American people. Almost 250,000 jobs were shed in July alone, making it clear that they have a long way to go.
