Apparently David Obey Doesn’t Believe in Transparency
Obey Votes Against Transparency in Agriculture Appropriations Legislation

Washington– Democrats touted transparency on the campaign trail in 2008 and David Obey had the perfect opportunity to put his money where his mouth is by voting for a measure instructing his party to make the Agriculture Appropriations bill available to the public for 72 hours before it receives a final vote, but instead David Obey stuck it to Wisconsin families and voted against the motion.

This behavior leaves Wisconsin families wondering, what is David Obey trying to hide?

“David Obey’s 40 years of disservice to Wisconsin is enough,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “The damage he has done to Wisconsin is unfathomable. Obey has allowed his unbridled loyalty to Nancy Pelosi divert his attention from representing the folks who sent him to Congress in the first place. His insatiable appetite for spending has cost Wisconsin thousands and now he is denying them the transparency that was once promised.”

And according to a new Rasmussen Report, David Obey’s vote puts him at odds with Wisconsin voters:

“Eighty-three percent (83%) of U.S. voters say legislation should be posted online in final form and available for everyone to read before Congress votes on it. The only exception would be for extreme emergencies.” (“83% Say Congress Should Post Bills Online For All To Read Before Voting On Them,” Rasmussen Reports, 9/30/09)

After Democrat promises of transparency on the campaign trail, why is David Obey so fearful of giving Wisconsin families what they were promised?

“We will bring transparency and openness to the budget process and to the use of earmarks, and we will give the American people the leadership they deserve.” (Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Release, December 12, 2006)
