Obama: I Have Bill Owens’ Support For My Government Healthcare Takeover
Recent Letter Hints at Owens’ Support for Democrats’ Anti-Jobs Spending Spree

Washington– Democrat candidate Bill Owens has tried to downplay his support for his party’s reckless tax-hiking agenda, but in a recent email written by President Obama, Owens’ true position came into the open. The letter highlights Owens’ support for President Obama’s big-government agenda, which includes the failed stimulus bill and Democrats’ attempts to push a government healthcare takeover. With these recent developments, Central and Northern New Yorkers can’t help but think: What else is Bill Owens hiding?

“I know I can count on Bill’s support as we work together to help middle-class families by reforming our health insurance system and getting our economy back on track. Can I count on you to help send him to Congress?” (Obama Email)

Owens has offered vague support for Democrats’ healthcare takeover:

“I support the President’s efforts to pass real health insurance reform.  We can’t continue to ignore the problems that exist with our health insurance industry and I join his call for action to address the broken system currently in place.” (Newswatch 50, “Owens Issues Statement on Health Insurance Reform,” 9/10/09)

Perhaps, Bill Owens is misinformed about his party’s reckless healthcare legislation. A recent Wall Street Journal article says that middle-class families will shoulder 90% of the costs of Democrats’ most recent bill.

“As it now stands, the plan proposed by Democrats and the Obama administration would not only fail to reduce the cost burden on middle-class families, it would make that burden significantly worse.” “Most astounding of all is what this Congress is willing to do to struggling middle-class families. The bill would impose nearly $400 billion in new taxes and fees. Nearly 90% of that burden will be shouldered by those making $200,000 or less.” (Douglas Holtz-Eakin, “The Baucus Bill Is a Tax Bill,” Wall Street Journal, 10/14/09)

“Bill Owens continues to shy away from taking firm positions on the issues that matter most to Central and Northern New Yorkers, but it looks like his Washington backers already know where he stands,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “At least voters finally know where Owens’ priorities lie – he has no problem offering his support for job-killing tax hikes and a government healthcare takeover as long as it means he’ll get a little campaign cash in return. Is this the type of candidate that Central and Northern New Yorkers can trust?”
