Arcuri Clears the Way to Bring Terrorists to U.S.
New York Democrat Gives Administration Permission to Import GITMO Detainees

Washington- Michael Arcuri cast yet another reckless and partisan vote at the behest of his Washington party bosses yesterday when he rejected a Republican motion which would block the Obama Administration from transferring Guantanamo Bay (GITMO) terror suspects to the U.S. for trial. The Democrats’ current plans roll out the welcome mat for GITMO detainees with provisions temporarily allowing the administration to try the prisoners in American courts. Arcuri’s vote not only puts Americans in danger, but it will come at a financial cost as well:

“Also looming in the background is a fight over raising the debt ceiling to help finance this spending. In August, the Treasury Department had predicted it would need action by mid-October, but that deadline has since been extended to late November or December.” (David Rogers, “House Democrats give Obama Gitmo space,” Politico, 10/16/2009)

According to a June Gallup Poll, Democrats’ plans to release the GITMO terror suspects to the U.S. are opposed by a 4-1 margin amongst voters:

“…A Gallup poll taken around the same time — but with the question worded differently — found that respondents opposed closing Guantanamo by a 2-1 margin and rejected the idea of moving detainees to their states by a 4-1 margin.” (Andrew Taylor,” Republicans fail to stop Gitmo transfers into US,” Associated Press, 10/15/2009)

“It’s no surprise that Michael Arcuri would cast yet another vote putting New York families at risk for the sake of appeasing his party bosses,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Arcuri’s deliberate disregard for his constituents’ safety is an appalling slap in the face to the people who voted to put him in office. When will Michael Arcuri realize that his political games jeopardize the safety of the American people?”
