Washington- It looks like so-called ‘moderate’ Democrats still aren’t getting the message that they’re legislating themselves into political peril. With Democrats bracing for a loss in Ted Kennedy’s Massachusetts Senate seat and polls showing independent voters fleeing from their runaway spending agenda, vulnerable Democrats like Betsy Markey are responding the only way they know how: caving in to party leadership to deliver a healthcare bill that is profoundly unpopular with the American public.
“Some centrist Democrats who voted against the House healthcare reform legislation say they may vote yes on the final bill if it closely mirrors the Senate-passed measure.”
“House leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), on Thursday stressed that they’re at the White House to fight for as much of the House bill as possible.”

“If Betsy Markey delivers a ‘yes’ vote to her party bosses for their healthcare debacle, her re-election campaign is going to make the Massachusetts special election look like a walk in the park,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Markey already has a well-deserved reputation as a rubber-stamp for her party’s agenda, but she can start packing up her office now if she thinks she can get away with supporting a bill that is overwhelmingly unpopular with voters across the country. If Democrats can’t sell their healthcare bill in the bluest state in the country, how exactly does Markey think she can defend it in Colorado?”
With ‘centrist Democrats’ preparing to cave in to their party bosses once again, Betsy Markey should save herself some time and book her ticket out of Washington before Colorado voters do it for her. After voting with her party’s agenda 94.0% of the time, it’s hard to see her turning back now.
