4 Alabama GOP congressmen back Griffith
| ‘We have found you to be a true conservative voice’
In a move separating local Republican leaders from those in Washington, D.C., four Alabama Republican congressmen on Monday endorsed U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith, R-Huntsville. Griffith, who joined the Republican Party in December, has worked to bring jobs to Alabama, improve the infrastructure and strengthen national defense, reads the endorsement signed by Alabama Reps. Mike Rogers, R-Anniston; Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville; Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills; and Jo Bonner, R-Mobile. “We also have found you to be a true conservative voice in Congress,” wrote his colleagues. They complimented Griffith’s recent appointment to the “most influential” Energy and Commerce Committee. But the Madison County Republican Executive Committee months ago did the opposite. Griffith faces County Commissioner Mo Brooks and former Navy pilot Les Phillip in the June 1 Republican primary. Local Republican leaders in January, critical of Griffith’s record as a Democrat, took the unusual step of making the endorsement, voting 27-19 to recommend either Brooks or Phillip over Griffith. On Monday, Griffith said in a statement: “The support and endorsement of my conservative Republican colleagues in the delegation means a lot to me because they have seen first-hand how hard I’ve fought Nancy Pelosi’s liberal agenda that will ruin our country if we don’t stop it.” |
