FWD: Democrats Blinked
Check out this note from NRCC Executive Director, Guy Harrison, following up on NRCC Chairman’s Pete Sessions’ email about the House GOP defeating the “clean” debt ceiling vote.
Yesterday, you heard from Chairman Sessions about how the Democrats ran for political cover from President Obama’s own request to increase the nation’s debt limit – without any corresponding spending cuts.
This is not surprising when you consider that 58 percent of Americans disapprove of the President’s handling of the economy and 64 percent disapprove of his handling of the budget. Your support has put the Democrats on their heels and kept the NRCC on offense. Don’t believe me? Consider this statement from political pundit Chuck Todd, “…they’ve [House Republicans] really shifted this debate. Six months ago, President Obama was out there: I want a clean vote, a clean bill to raise the debt limit. We’ll have budget negotiations, at the same time I want a clean vote. They made a mockery of that position.” Todd went on to say about the budget negotiations, “Now it’s on terms House Republicans are setting.” Let’s keep the heat on Democrats. Your support of the NRCC sends a clear message to Democrats: their policies have failed and remain a nonstarter for any spending discussion. Dear Supporter,
Last night Democrats blinked. They ran for political cover from President Obama’s own request to increase the nation’s debt limit – without any corresponding spending cuts. The vote is a lesson about how House Democrats ran Congress when they were in the majority – and how they ran Washington for decades. When they can’t get away with outright defying the public (as they did in passing Government-Run Healthcare), some may reluctantly vote the will of voters. Make no mistake about it: with polls showing only 11% of Americans supporting such an increase in the debt ceiling, the issue was a nonstarter. House Republicans knew this, but the Obama Administration, Harry Reid and many voices in the mainstream media perpetuated a fiction that there was widespread support for raising the debt ceiling unencumbered by any cuts in federal spending. Our $14.3 trillion debt is on pace to eclipse our entire economy and will wreck our future. You know that. House Republicans know that. And last night, we proved that many House Democrats cannot withstand the light of public attention to say otherwise. There is only one way to deal with Democrats who put politics before all other considerations – and that is to defeat them. That’s why your continued support of the NRCC is so crucial. Will you send $3, $5, or $10 today – now – to spend a little in order to help us win the fight against those who will spend too much? Last night, we cut up Obama’s credit card, but the fight is not over. I pledge that, with your support, the NRCC will remain on offense – holding Democrats accountable for reckless votes and exposing those who seek political cover. Thank you, Pete Sessions P.S. We must keep the fight to prevent Washington Democrats from giving themselves another credit card.Support the NRCC with a gift of $3, $5, $10 or more, and together we can keep the heat on Democrats. |
