Frazier, Sias earn spots in GOP primary for 7th CD
Republicans in the 7th Congressional District will choose between Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier and pilot Lang Sias in the August primary.
They each received more than 30 percent of the delegate vote at the 7th CD Assembly on Thursday night at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Two other candidates, Mike Sheely and Michael Deming, failed to get enough support to make the ballot, but both said they had no regrets.
“I left everything on the table,” Sheely said. “It’s been quite the ride.”
Deming said he now gets to spend more time with his children.
Frazier received 171 votes, or 49 percent, to win the top line on the ballot, while Sias received 154 votes, or 43 percent.
The winner faces U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, a Democrat from Golden, who was ridiculed by Republicans throughout the evening. He was referred to as “Ed Pelosimutter,” a twist on his name and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s.
Beverly McAdams of Arvada, who nominated Frazier, said she and her husband have always voted but never were active. “Then Obama became president,” she said. “I want my country back.”
Frazier echoed the sentiment in his speech, saying, “This president and Congress have our country moving down the same path as Greece and Europe.”
Former U.S. Sen. Hank Brown seconded Frazier’s nomination.
Two former congressmen, Bob Beauprez and Tom Tancredo, helped nominate Sias.
Tancredo said the delegates needed to ask the same question he asked himself before endorsing Sias: “Can he win? And is he real?”
Sias, a military veteran, invited Republicans to accompany him on his “latest mission.”
