Hayworth Gets Law Enforcement Support
Three local county sheriffs came out in support of Nan Hayworth and her run for Congress this November.
Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian Anderson, Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois and Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith each announced their support for their fellow Republican at a news conference in Wappingers Falls on Monday. Hayworth could challenge Congressman John Hall for his seat in the 19th District, which includes parts of Orange and Dutchess counties and all of Putnam. She must first ace fellow Republican Neil DiCarlo in a GOP primary in September. “We in the Hudson Valley need to have a grounded voice in Washington, someone who will not sit on the sidelines and be a rubber stamp, someone who’s not going to be satisfied with the status quo or be content with the failing fiscal policies,” said DuBois. “We need someone who has experience in local business and is in touch with the local people. Nan Hayworth will be that grounded voice who listens to the residents of the Hudson Valley.” Smith noted that he usually does not endorse any political candidates. “Today I come here as a veteran, today I come here as a citizen, to offer words of encouragement and words of support to Nan Hayworth.” One of Hayworth’s goals is to get Washington back on track. “I intend to correct the balance that now is out of balance in Washington, D.C.” she said. Hayworth also answered tough questions on illegal immigration and the economy. About immigration, Hayworth believes the first priority is to better secure our borders. “Without securing our borders effectively, we cannot control the flow of illegal immigration across our borders, or our ports, or our sky,” she said. She also believes that taxes need to be lowered and some eliminated completely. Meanwhile, DiCarlo, who will face Hayworth in a GOP primary in September, said he was “saddened” that Smith, “who shares the same traditional conservative family values as me, chose to formally announce his endorsement of Dr. Nan Hayworth, a socially liberal Westchester Republican.” DiCarlo called Smith “a faith-based man of God [who] endorsed a candidate whose views are in direct opposition to the Church.” |
