Dr. Robert Steele Reaches ‘Contender’ Status
Michigan Candidate Takes Second Step in ‘Young Guns’ Program

Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Dr. Robert Steele (MI-15) has reached ‘Contender’ status as part of its Young Guns program. ‘Contender’ status is the second step in the three-level program. Steele now faces a new set of benchmarks to reach ‘Young Gun’ status in his bid to represent Michigan’s 15th Congressional District. His opponent is lifelong politician John Dingell, whose re-election campaign is on the rocks thanks to his support for failed economic policies that have driven Michigan’s unemployment rate above 13 percent.

Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. By achieving ‘Contender’ status, Hurt has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals.

“The NRCC is committed to working with Dr. Robert Steele as he continues to promote fresh, new ideas to revive the economy and get Michigan families back to work,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions. “Robert is an accomplished, independent leader whose experience as a doctor has put him on the frontlines of the country’s healthcare and economic challenges. I am confident that Dr. Steele will wage a strong campaign against John Dingell as we fight to add this seat to the Republican column in November.”

With Dr. Steele’s extensive background and dedication to the field of medicine, he brings a particular knowledge and perspective to the table that makes him uniquely qualified for office at this time in our nation’s history. After finishing medical school, Dr. Steele became a faculty member at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Steele has received advanced certification in Echocardiography and Interventional Cardiology, is founding member of Michigan Heart PC and has served many years on the Board of Directors. In addition, he is the chair of the Finance and Benefits Committees for the practice.

He now faces a new set of rigorous goals that will elevate him to the top level of the Young Guns program and help him build a competitive, effective and winning campaign.
