Jaime Herrera Advances to Top Level of Young Guns Program
Washington Republican Reaches ‘Young Gun’ Status with Clear Path to Victory

Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Jaime Herrera (WA-03) has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the premiere level of its three-tiered Young Guns program. By advancing to the program’s top tier, Herrera has proven her ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fundraising goals.

“Jaime Herrera is ready to add this seat to the Republican column as she takes on her Democrat opponent, an Olympia liberal who supports job-killing policies like tax hikes and runaway spending,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Jaime’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidacies in Washington and across the country. As Democrats and their party bosses continue to push their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like Jaime Herrera will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much.”

Jaime Herrera grew up in Southwest Washington and graduated from Prairie High School and the University of Washington. From 2005 to 2007, she served as a Senior Legislative Aide for Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, acting as the Congresswoman’s lead advisor on healthcare policy, education, veterans’ and women’s issues. In 2007, Herrera was appointed to a vacancy as State Representative in Washington State’s 18th Legislative District. After serving in the 2008 legislative session she ran for election and 60% of the voters in her district cast their vote to keep Herrera representing them in Olympia. Herrera aims to bring a fresh and effective voice to Congress and restore commonsense leadership to the Third District in order to get the local economy back on track and restore prosperity in Southwest Washington.

Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain actively involved in Young Guns, working together to recruit and prime conservative leaders for victory.

Now that Jaime Herrera has completed the Young Guns’ benchmarks to place her on the road to victory, she is ready to take on her Democrat opponent in November.
