Joe Malone Reaches ‘Contender’ Status
Massachusetts Republican Takes Critical Second Step in ‘Young Guns’ Program Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican Joe Malone (MA-10) has reached ‘Contender’ status as part of its Young Guns program. ‘Contender’ status is the second step in the three-level program, with Malone now facing a new set of benchmarks to reach ‘Young Gun’ status in his bid to win the open seat race for Massachusetts’ 10th Congressional District. Malone is running for the seat currently occupied by Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-MA), who announced his retirement after supporting his party’s runaway spending spree which has led to unprecedented debt and unacceptably high unemployment. Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. By achieving ‘Contender’ status, Malone has already demonstrated his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals. “Joe Malone has met a series of rigorous fundraising and campaign goals that will go a long way in helping to put this seat in the Republican column,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Joe is part of a strong and growing pool of candidates who are frustrated with the Democrat majority’s big-government ways and aren’t willing to stand by any longer. The success of his campaign has put congressional Democrats on notice that Americans are ready to turn the page on the failed experiment known as the Obama-Pelosi agenda.” After graduating from Harvard University, Joe Malone was elected to State Treasurer in 1991 and four years later was re-elected with almost 70 percent of the vote. Over the eight years as treasurer, he reformed the treasury and cut costs by 62 percent. He merged Massachusetts’ pension funds, reforming the system and saving $100 million over the course of five years. In 1996, his leadership and innovative thinking earned him recognition by the Center for Policy Alternatives, which presented him with the Pathfinder Award. In addition to his service, Malone has helped build two businesses and has been involved in eight startup companies. In addition to his work as a entrepreneur and a former treasurer, Malone has also been a conservative political analyst on Boston’s Fox TV station, Channel 25, discussing current events. Malone now faces a new set of rigorous goals that will elevate him to the top level of the Young Guns program and help him build a competitive, effective and winning campaign.
