New poll confirms close race in 10th
There’s another poll out this morning that shows that the race for the 10th Congressional District is neck and neck between Republican Jeffrey Perry and Democrat William Keating.
This poll, reported in the Washington Post, shows Perry holds a slight lead over Keating. There are no details of who was surveyed, but it shows Perry with 44 percent and Keating with 42 percent.
The poll was conducted by the National Republican Congressional Committee, which is spending large amounts of money on Perry’s behalf in the race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. William Delahunt.
A spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, which recently named Perry a young gun, said the poll results are an indication that Perry’s message is resonating with voters on the South Shore and Cape Cod.
“Considering this is Massachusetts, a Democrat stronghold, we knew we would have a tough fight,” spokesman Tory Mazzola said. “This race is competitive because Jeff Perry is running an excellent campaign focused on lower taxes, limited government and cuts to spending. Compare that to Bill Keating’s shady and partisan record of voting himself pay raised and brokering deals with defense lawyers while accepting campaign contributions on the side…”
The Keating campaign reacted this morning saying that the results are an indication this is anyone’s race. “Cearly this race is going to go right down to Election Day,” Keating spokesman Stephen Crawford said. “Voters will step in to the voting booth and decide who they trust to represent them in Washington.”
The results in the NRCC poll are close to the numbers in the WGBH and MassINC poll released Sunday. That poll of 400 likely voters shows Keating holding a three point edge, 46 to 43 percent.
