Ann Marie Buerkle Advances to Top Level of Young Guns Program
New York Republican Reaches ‘Young Gun’ Status with Clear Path to Victory
Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the premiere level of its three-tiered Young Guns program. By advancing to the program’s top tier, Buerkle has proven her ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fundraising goals. With an anti-incumbent sentiment sweeping throughout New York, Buerkle is poised to mount a strong challenge against partisan Democrat Rep. Dan Maffei (D-NY).
“Ann Marie Buerkle is ready to take on incumbent Dan Maffei, an out-of-touch Washington insider who has recklessly supported his party’s runaway spending spree which has led to unacceptably high unemployment and massive debt,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Ann Marie’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidacies in New York and across the country. As Democrats in Washington continue to push their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, independent leaders like Anne Marie Buerkle will continue to present a clear alternative to a majority that continues to spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much.”
A native of Auburn, New York, Ann Marie Buerkle is a nurse and accomplished attorney working in healthcare. After graduating as an R.N. from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Buerkle went on to obtain her law degree from Syracuse University School of Law. She now works as an Assistant New York State Attorney General, representing New York State with Upstate Medical University as a client. Buerkle is dedicated to improving quality and affordable healthcare, but not at the expense of struggling middle-class families. As a small business owner for over twenty years, Buerkle knows that higher taxes, government expansion and exorbitant energy costs are driving businesses and jobs away from Upstate New York. Having garnered support from Central New Yorkers of all kinds, Buerkle will appear on the Conservative line, the Republican line, and also the important Independence line this November.
Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain actively involved in Young Guns, working together to recruit and prime Republican leaders for victory. With a record in lock-step with Speaker Pelosi more than 96 percent of the time, it’s no wonder a recent poll showed Maffei trailing Buerkle by one point.
Now that Buerkle has completed the Young Guns’ benchmarks to place her on the road to victory, she is ready to take on out-of-touch Democrat Dan Meffei in November.
