Noem Swarmed By Reporters In D.C.

November 15, 2010

Congresswoman-elect Kristi Noem is getting her first taste of Washington, D.C. She flew out Sunday and on Monday, she began a full week of orientation, meetings and interviews.

Noem is one of several new faces on Capitol Hill as she begins her transition as South Dakota’s new representative.

CBS News reported Noem and her husband, Bryon, were greeted by a swarm of reporters and camera crews wanting to follow her every move, paparazzi-style.

“The environment was very different for Bryon and I when we arrived at the airport. There was a lot of media there and we had the opportunity to visit with them. This is Bryon’s first trip to D.C. There was a lot of media attention around this freshmen class. It’s been historic and hopefully the results we deliver to the American people will be historic as well,” Noem said.

Noem’s already attended several meetings.

“Administrative, ethics meeting, setting up our office, hiring staff and just learning what the guidelines, laws and regulations would be that we will follow as we go through that process,” Noem said.

She’s reportedly the front runner for a newly created leadership position with the House of Representatives, which the freshmen class will vote on Wednesday.

“There’s other people running for that position as well and when we get to those decisions, the freshmen class will have good people to choose from and hopefully they’ll end up picking the one who will be most effective and the best voice at the table,” Noem said.

Noem and her husband will stay in Washington until Saturday and then she says she won’t return until January when she’s sworn in on January 3.
