Unemployment Still Unacceptably High As Peterson and His Party Refuse to Take Job Creation Seriously
Democrat Leaders in Washington Still Think More Big-Government Spending Creates Jobs
Washington — New national unemployment numbers released by the Department of Labor today demonstrated that there is still much work to do to get Americans back to work, which to Collin Peterson’s Democrat leaders in Washington means even more reckless spending that would heap additional debt on middle-class families. The contrasting visions are clear – Peterson’s fellow Democrats want more of their failed stimulus spending while Republicans are moving forward with plans to shrink the deficit and encourage private sector job growth. It remains to be seen whether Peterson is listening to the calls from families and small businesses across Minnesota to cut spending, reduce the tax burden and provide an environment for businesses to create jobs.
“Collin Peterson and his fellow Democrats have shown no signs of changing their free-spending, big government ways which have done nothing but place additional burdens on small businesses that are trying to grow and create more jobs,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Peterson and his Democrat colleagues are busy repackaging their failed stimulus policies instead of doing what the American people have asked them to do, which is develop plans to shrink the deficit and get Americans back to work.”

Experts have pointed to excessive government spending as a key problem to creating jobs, rather than a solution:

“Words matter in politics, which is why the federal government no longer ‘spends’ (and wastes) money, but rather ‘invests’ it. …“This is all spin. It’s a variation on the theme that brought us the $814 billion stimulus two years ago. That spending—er, investment—was going to create three million jobs. Those jobs never showed up.”“That is why the best investment in America’s future now is to bring spending down as rapidly as possible to reduce debt and finance reductions in tax rates—especially on investment.” (Stephen Moore, “Obama’s ‘Investment’ Charade,” The Wall Street Journal, 1/27/11)

With his party offering the same failed policies voters revolted against, will Peterson join Republicans in reigning in big government spending and clearing the path to more jobs? With national unemployment still hovering at 9.0%, Minnesota families and small businesses are demanding bold action now.
