Will Owens Join President’s Call for More Debt, More Spending, and More Uncertainty for Job Creators?
New York Democrat’s Party Intends to Raise Debt Limit without Meaningful Cuts

Washington — White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley on Wednesday made it clear that the Obama administration intends to raise the country’s debt ceiling without serious reductions in spending, which means New York Democrat Bill Owens can either break with his party or continue the Democrats’ spending spree that led to this fiscal emergency in the first place.
“While Americans urge for smaller government, lower debt and job creation, Democrat leaders in Washington continue to offer the exact opposite – wasteful spending, bigger government and more debt,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Will Bill Owens support yet another Democrat policy that burdens middle class families with more debt, or will he finally listen to the scores of New York families calling for sane fiscal policies that will open the door to job creation?”

White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley declared the Obama administration’s intention to add even more spending while simultaneously raising the debt limit on Wednesday:

“The administration is urging Congress to raise the debt ceiling, warning that failing to do so would cause the government to default on its debt, which would upend financial markets and the global economy.” (Sudeep Reddy and Corey Boles, “U.S. Gains Time on Debt Amid Spending Battle,” Wall Street Journal, 2/3/11)

“Still, Daley said, ‘you cannot cut your way out’ of the nation’s financial problems without damaging the prospects for a robust economic recovery. So, the president’s budget will include additional spending in education, transportation and technology, which Obama identified in his State of the Union address as areas vital to giving the recovery momentum.” (Jeanne Cummings, “Daley: Shutdown would be ‘chaos,’” Politico, 2/2/11)

Unfortunately, Democrats in Washington have been ignoring the impending fiscal catastrophe for far too long, and it appears that President Obama has no intention of making any meaningful changes on spending despite outcry from voters. Will Owens continue the Democrat’s tone-deaf approach to reckless spending or will he finally stand up for New York’s middle-class families confined under mountains of debt?
