Pelosi May have to Testify in Massa Investigation

April 22, 2010

Amid reports that the FBI is investigating payments from former Rep. , Eric Massa to a former aide, the House Ethics Committee has launched its own probe into how Democratic leaders handled the sexual harassment allegations that eventually caused Massa to resign.
The ethics panel rarely disciplines its members, but the announcement is significant because it involves the top tier of power in the House, including Speaker , Nancy Pelosi, whose office was among those notified about the charges against Massa. The committee wants to find out if lawmakers and their aides responded appropriately when male employees came to them and complained about Massa’s behavior.
It’s possible Pelosi may have to testify, in addition to her top staffers.
Meanwhile, a lawyer for an unidentified former Massa staffer told the Associated Press that she believes the FBI is interested in a $40,000 check from Massa’s campaign to his former chief of staff, Joe Racalto.
