38 Days Left as Obama Continues to Block Keystone Jobs
Despite Broad Coalition of Job Creators Urging Keystone Approval, Workers Are Still Waiting on Obama to End Bureaucratic Delay of Job Creation
Despite a vast alliance of job creators and local officials urging President Obama to stop blocking the creation of tens of thousands of Keystone jobs, President Obama continues to delay this immediate job creation opportunity. American workers are left wondering if President Obama will once again prioritize political payback for his Washington friends over real job creation:
MARATHON OIL COMPANY: “Standing alone, KXL would alleviate some of the existing congestion in regional pipeline systems and therefore benefit domestic oil production. More importantly, Transcanada is actively working with Bakken producers in Montana and North Dakota to determine if there is sufficient interest and commercial support to provide a connection to KXL for Bakken producers. Such a connection would not only provide access to additional U.S. markets but increase domestic oil production, reduce dependence on foreign oil, increase jobs, and increase tax revenues.” (Marathon Oil Company letter to U.S. State Department, 6/29/2010)
ILLINOIS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: “You should know that other pipeline projects that connect the growing sources of crude oil from Canada to the United States have gone through similar review and been approved. Canada is our nation’s number one supplier of foreign crude oil, and it provides more than 50 percent of the crude oil to the five Illinois and NW Indiana refineries that provide a vast majority of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel for the people and businesses in our state – your constituents.” (Illinois Chamber of Commerce letter to Rep. Janice Schakowsky and Rep. Michael Quigley, 6/30/2010)
DENBURY RESOURCES, INC.: “KXL is important for America’s domestic energy security, not only because it will deliver crude to U.S. markets from our closest ally and neighbor, Canada, but because it will also facilitate the ongoing development of the Bakken formation within the Williston Basin in the United States of America. … The Bakken formation is one of the few land-based regions of the continental United States where oil production has been increasing in recent years. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates there are between 3 billion and 4 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil in the Bakken formation. This is a tremendous national resource that can displace imports from unfriendly or unstable nations. This resource will not be developed to its full potential without maximizing access to markets and additional pipeline capacity.” (Denbury Resources, Inc. letter to U.S. State Department, 7/1/2010)
