Dems Say They “Own The Economy” But Demand More Job-Crushing Taxes That Will Make It Worse
Number Two House Democrat Insists Upon New Taxes Despite Economic Turmoil “Owned” By McIntyre and His Party
Washington — Another day has passed and yet again North Carolina Democrat Mike McIntyre’s party leaders are demanding job-crushing tax hikes in order to fuel their spending spree, despite the fact that new reports show high taxes are already hurting small businesses struggling to create jobs. Given his leaders’ commitment to higher taxes instead of having the government live within its means, we can assume that McIntyre will jump on board with their plans to continue their spending spree unabated even though they would make the struggling economy even worse.
“It seems as if not a day goes by without a chorus of Mike McIntyre’s Democrat leaders confirming that they are responsible for a struggling economy, yet they continue to do everything they can to make things harder for North Carolina’s job creators,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “At a time when struggling small businesses are calling for relief from job-crushing taxes, McIntyre would do the most harm by smothering them with even higher rates. McIntyre and his Democrat leaders may be willing to pay any price to defend and expand their spending spree, but it would come at the expense of his North Carolina constituents’ jobs and pocketbooks.”
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz declared today that Democrats proudly “own the economy” when asked about its dismal state:
But a new National Federation of Independent Business survey showed small business owners are increasingly suffering under rising taxes and burdensome red tape:
Despite this, the number two Democrat in the House, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, demanded new tax increases on small businesses that are the engine of economic growth:
“‘We expect revenues to be a part of any solution — Vice President Biden has made that very clear; the president’s made it clear — and so our expectation is they will be part of any solution.'”
(Sean Lengell, “Hoyer: Raise taxes to lower debt and deficit,” The Washington Times‘ Inside Politics Blog, 6/14/11)Even though small businesses are pointing to rising taxes as a direct impediment to creating jobs, that’s exactly what Mike McIntyre’s Democrat leaders are trying to advocate for in order to promote an even bigger spending spree. In joining with their backwards priorities, McIntyre would be sending a clear signal that he will support his Washington allies at the expense of his North Carolina constituents.
