Georgia Democrat Stands With Disgraced Congressman’s Unacceptable Behavior
Washington — Although numerous Democrats are purging their donations from scandal-plagued Congressman Anthony Weiner, John Barrow continues to keep his contributions and seemingly act as if nothing is wrong. In deciding to continue holding on to the political donations from his disgraced colleague, Barrow is sending a strong message to his Georgia constituents that partisan loyalty in Washington comes before them.
“Congressman Weiner’s behavior is so unbecoming for a Member of Congress that it should have been a very easy decision for John Barrow to return or donate the money he has received from his disgraced colleague,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Instead, Barrow continues to pocket his embattled ally’s cash and essentially pretend that Weiner’s behavior is not a problem.”
A total of $11,000 has been donated so far by Ohio Democrat Betty Sutton, Indiana Democrat Joe Donnelly, Iowa Democrat David Loebsack, Connecticut Democrat Joe Courtney, and Minnesota Democrat Tim Walz:
“U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack, a Democrat who represents eastern Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, will donate a $1,000 campaign contribution he received four years ago from embattled U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner to charity, a Loebsack campaign aide confirmed Wednesday to the Des Moines Register.” (William Petroski, “Rep. Loebsack will donate $1,000 contribution from Weiner to charity,” The Des Moines Register, 6/8/11)
John Barrow has still not returned or donated the $6,000 he has received from disgraced Congressman Weiner.
As his Democrat colleagues continue to ditch their tainted contributions from Congressman Weiner, Barrow inexplicably seems content to hold on to them. In doing so, Barrow is signaling that partisan unity in Washington trumps the issues his constituents need addressed in Georgia.
