Has McIntyre Found a New Way to Keep His Spending Spree Alive?
House Democrat Leaders Again Demanding a Clean Debt Ceiling Hike Without Any Cuts

Washington — North Carolina Democrat Mike McIntyre’s party leaders are now resorting to increasingly drastic measures as they struggle to keep their failed spending spree going. Clearly, McIntyre’s House Democrat leaders are looking to avoid having the government live within its means when they urge President Obama to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling without a single dollar in cuts. Does that mean McIntyre will fall in line and join the calls to try and force a clean debt ceiling hike just so he can continue spending and borrowing unabated?

“Mike McIntyre and his Democrat colleagues have been resorting to increasingly desperate measures to continue spending money they don’t have, like demanding job-destroying tax hikes during a bad economy,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Still, McIntyre would be reaching a new low if he decides to join the cries from his Democrat leaders begging President Obama to unilaterally force more borrowing without the spending reforms that are needed to avoid an economic crisis.”

Three of the most senior House Democrat leaders are now calling for President Obama to try and force a clean debt ceiling hike without any fiscal reforms whatsoever:

“A trio of House Democratic leaders is calling on President Obama to move unilaterally to raise the country’s debt ceiling next week if Congress passes anything less than a long-term extension of the federal borrowing limit.

“House Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn (S.C.), Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (Conn.) and Caucus Vice-Chairman Xavier Becerra (Calif.) said after a closed-door caucus meeting Wednesday that they are calling on Obama both to veto a short-term deal and sign an executive order invoking the Constitution’s 14th Amendment to avert default on Aug. 2.” (Felicia Sonmez, “House Democrats to Obama: Raise debt limit by invoking 14th Amendment if necessary,” The Washington Post’s 2chambers Blog, 7/27/11)

Mike McIntyre’s party leaders in the House are now resorting to increasingly drastic and questionable methods to try and keep their spending and borrowing spree from ending. If McIntyre joins their calls, he would demonstrate that he will reject efforts to simply stop spending money we don’t have by any means necessary.
