McIntyre Demands More Job-Destroying Tax Hikes After Spending Trillions
North Carolina Democrat’s Party Leaders Insisting on Higher Taxes During a Bad Economy

Washington — As negotiations continue to reverse the disastrous results of the Democrats’ spending and borrowing spree that has left this country trillions of dollars further in debt, Mike McIntyre and his Democrat leaders are pushing harder for even more taxes in the midst of a dismal economy. Since House Democrat Whip Steny Hoyer is now saying his caucus will only vote for a deal that has tax increases, that suggests McIntyre is also demanding job-destroying tax hikes in order to protect their government spending spree that continues to borrow endlessly from foreign countries like China.

“Since his House Democrat leaders are insisting that their Members will only vote for a debt reduction deal that includes job-destroying tax hikes, it would seem Mike McIntyre is marching in lock-step as well,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “McIntyre and his Democrat colleagues are demanding higher taxes for one reason: so they can spend more taxpayer dollars for their big-government agenda. This flawed position would not only crush job creation when it is needed most, it shows how out of touch McIntyre is with his North Carolina constituents who are demanding that Washington start living within its means in order to get our economy moving again.”

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer said his Members are demanding tax hikes for their support in a deficit reduction deal:

“The Democratic House leader in charge of counting votes on legislation to raise the nation’s debt ceiling warned on Monday that he couldn’t guarantee a single vote from his party if revenues weren’t part of the deal.” (“Steny Hoyer On Debt Ceiling: Don’t Expect A Single Vote Without Revenues,” The Huffington Post, 7/11/11)

But even President Obama pointed out the obvious back in 2009, which is that higher taxes will make a bad economy worse:

“In August 2009, on a visit to Elkhart, Indiana to tout his stimulus plan, Obama sat down for an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, and was conveyed a simple request from Elkhart resident Scott Ferguson: ‘Explain how raising taxes on anyone during a deep recession is going to help with the economy.’ Obama agreed with Ferguson’s premise – raising taxes in a recession is a bad idea. ‘First of all, he’s right. Normally, you don’t raise taxes in a recession, which is why we haven’t and why we’ve instead cut taxes. So I guess what I’d say to Scott is – his economics are right. You don’t raise taxes in a recession. We haven’t raised taxes in a recession.'” (Stephen F. Hayes, “Obama vs. Obama,” The Weekly Standard‘s Blog, 7/11/11)

Clearly the Democrats are unwilling to quit their addiction to government spending and borrowing from foreign countries like China, and it appears that Mike McIntyre is going to follow along. If McIntyre decides to march in lock-step with his Democrat leaders’ demands, it will only make a bad economy worse when middle-class families in North Carolina can afford it least.
