Shuler Facing Only One Question from North Carolinians This August: Where Are the Jobs?
Unemployment Numbers Remain Sky High, Ensuring No End to Economic Stagnation

Washington — Thanks to the job-destroying policies that Heath Shuler and House Democrats champion, not only did the stock market see its worst decline since the 2008 crash this week, but the July unemployment rate remained sky high all over the country. As Shuler and Congressional Democrats attempt to pivot their focus to the dismal job market, they cannot help but simultaneously shine light on how their job-destroying policies are responsible for America’s economic stagnation. By refusing to provide an environment that encourages small businesses to create jobs, Shuler can blame no one but himself and his party for promoting job-crushing policies that are having debilitating effects on North Carolinian workers.

“The new unemployment numbers are no longer warning signs of a weak economy, they are tangible evidence that Heath Shuler and his fellow Washington Democrats refuse to do what it takes to create jobs for struggling North Carolinian families,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “The latest unemployment numbers are a reminder that it is time to hold President Obama and Heath Shuler accountable for their reckless economic agenda and demand an answer to the question: where are the jobs?”

The July national unemployment rate remained sky high at 9.1 percent. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Accessed 8/5/11)

With excessive regulation and weak consumer confidence, a report from Gallup shows that Shuler has managed to scare employers away from hiring not just now but well into the future too:

“Hiring has also remained virtually flat over the past six months, as Gallup’s hiring measure has stayed in the 30% to 33% range. That is, employers appear to be holding back on their hiring during recent months. Companies may be concerned about how much business they expect to get in the future. This reduction in operating visibility seems to be hindering hiring, which is consistent with the weak jobless claims and job growth data the government has reported in recent months” (Dennis Jacobe, “U.S. Employers Holding Back on Job Creation,” Gallup, 8/2/2011)

After continuing to make a bad economy worse, Shuler and his fellow House Democrats are being held accountable by North Carolinian families for the shadow of unemployment hovering over the American economy that shows no sign of lifting any time soon.
