Americans Rejecting the Barrow-Obama Economy More Than Ever
Georgia Democrat Faces a “Referendum on Obama and Biden” and Their Failed Economic Leadership

Washington — After years of failed leadership in Washington, John Barrow’s Democrat leaders are finally admitting that their economic policies are responsible for the situation Georgia’s middle-class families find themselves in today. However, Vice President Biden’s comments yesterday come as no surprise to American voters who are already holding Washington Democrats like Barrow accountable for the bad economy that threatens to take a turn for the worst.

“After his service as a loyal ally to their failed agenda, John Barrow is now facing a referendum on the poor state of the economy by his Democrat leaders’ own admission,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “As Vice President Biden has now confirmed, Barrow has only his own disastrous economic policies to blame for the dismal state of the economy that Georgia’s middle-class families and small businesses face today.”

Vice President Joe Biden admitted yesterday that the Democrats who control Washington own the economy, and that 2012 will be a referendum on their record:

“Vice President Joe Biden said in a live interview with Miami public radio station WLRN Thursday that the Obama administration – not the Bush administration – now has ownership of the struggling U.S. economy…

“‘Right now, we are the ones in charge, and it’s gotten better but it hasn’t gotten good enough,’ Biden told WLRN. ‘…I don’t blame them for being mad. We’re in charge. So they’re angry.’

“Biden said it is ‘totally legitimate’ for the 2012 presidential election to be ‘a referendum on Obama and Biden and the nature and state of the economy.'” (Brian Montopoli, “Joe Biden: The economy belongs to us, not Bush,” CBS News’ Political Hotsheet Blog, 9/29/11)

Americans seem to be way ahead of the Vice President, with a large plurality currently preferring Republicans to Democrats on the economy:

“Americans see the Republican Party as better able than the Democratic Party to protect the country from terrorism and military threats, and to keep the country prosperous over the next few years…

“Democrats held the advantage over the Republican Party on the ‘prosperous’ dimension from 2003 through 2009, a period that included the majority of George W. Bush’s presidency and the first year of Barack Obama’s. The advantage switched to the GOP last year and remains so this year, by 48% to 39%.” (Frank Newport, “Americans Give GOP Edge in Handling Nation’s Problems,” Gallup, 9/30/11)

John Barrow will have an increasingly difficult job defending President Obama’s record on the economy to his Georgia constituents. As Vice President Biden said, Barrow and his fellow Washington Democrats are in charge and this election will be a referendum on their failed economic policies.
