Rahall and Obama: Taxing Together Forever
West Virginia Democrat Has a History of Supporting Job-Destroying Taxes Right Alongside President Obama

Washington — President Obama’s new tax plan, despite the negative reviews, would be a natural fit for Nick Rahall given his long history of supporting the President’s proposals for job-destroying tax hikes. Both Rahall and Obama have consistently demonstrated that they would prefer job-crushing tax increases to pay for failed big-government policies, rather than the pro-growth reform that will create the jobs West Virginia families want.

“Given Nick Rahall’s history of imposing higher taxes on families and job creators in West Virginia, his support for President Obama’s new $1.5 trillion tax plan in the middle of a bad economy would unfortunately be par for the course,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Rahall should realize that his constituents in West Virginia just want jobs, not more taxes on families and small businesses that will make the bad economy even worse.”

Nick Rahall has stood side by side with President Obama in voting for job-destroying tax hike proposals:

Rahall voted for a Democrat proposal to repeal the 2001 and 2003 Tax Cuts in the midst of a bad economy, which President Obama wants to do in his new plan. (Roll Call #276, 4/15/11)

Rahall voted for the government takeover of healthcare, which imposed enormous new taxes and fees on families and small businesses alike. (Roll Call #165, Roll Call #167, 3/21/10)

Rahall voted to more than double the taxes paid by investors who invest in new small businesses and emerging technologies to create innovative jobs. (Roll Call #943, 12/9/09)

Rahall voted for the largest increase in the death tax in American history, which places an enormous burden on and destroys the jobs created by family-owned farms and small businesses. (Roll Call #929, 12/3/09)

President Obama’s new proposal fits right in the pattern of pushing more job-crushing taxes to pay for more failed big-government spending:

“Of the $1.5 trillion in new tax revenue Obama proposes, about half would come from allowing George W. Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy to expire. The other half would come from limiting deductions and exclusions for those making more than $250,000 and closing loopholes for special interests such as oil companies.” (Zachary A. Goldfarb and Rosalind S. Helderman, “Obama proposes new taxes on wealthy for half of debt plan,” The Washington Post, 9/19/11)

Nick Rahall’s history of voting for President Obama’s job-destroying tax increases makes him a clear candidate to double down on the President’s latest $1.5 trillion tax hike. However, Rahall seems to be missing the point, which is that middle-class families in West Virginia want job creation and not more taxes that will make a bad economy worse.
