Will McIntyre Offer New Policies or New Talking Points?
North Carolina Democrat’s Old Job-Destroying Policies Likely to Continue Uninterrupted, Covered Up With New Spin

Washington — Although middle-class families and small businesses in North Carolina are looking for a change to pro-growth reform from Washington, it is looking increasingly likely that Mike McIntyre’s Democrat leaders only intend to repackage their same job-crushing policies again this week. With President Obama’s speech taking place on Thursday, will McIntyre offer his North Carolina constituents new policies or simply new talking points to distract from his failed record on jobs?

“If Mike McIntyre and his Democrat leaders only have more of their same failed policies to offer, middle-class families and small businesses in North Carolina will surely see a bad economy become worse,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “McIntyre’s constituents want new pro-growth policies to grow the private-sector economy, not new talking points to double down on the same failed policies of the past.”

Party leaders in Washington like House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi are more focused on creating new talking points than new policies to change course from their failed legacy:

“Though the House minority leader and her caucus are still pushing an economic stimulus agenda to save the economy, they’ve radically changed their rhetoric with the hope of winning over voters who saw ‘stimulus’ as close to a dirty word.

“Democrats are now being careful to frame their job-creation agenda in language excluding references to any stimulus, even though their favored policies for ending the deepest recession since the Great Depression are largely the same…

“Adding to the Democrats’ messaging woes, White House economic advisors Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein predicted that the stimulus bill – even before its passage – would keep unemployment below 8 percent. Ten months later it hit 10.1 percent, and today stands at 9.1 percent.” (Mike Lillis, “Pelosi drops the word ‘stimulus,'” The Hill, 9/6/11)

However, approval of these policies continues to reach new lows among American voters:

“The dim public outlook is a blunt reminder of why the White House has so much riding on the president’s high-stakes economic speech Thursday and the success of his latest push for a jobs package.

“Obama receives particularly low marks for his economic stewardship, with only 39 percent saying they approve and 59 percent saying they disapprove.” (Carrie Budoff Brown, “Battleground Poll: Obama approval rating down amid deep economic fears,” Politico, 9/5/11)

Mike McIntyre’s North Carolina constituents will be looking for a new direction on job creation when the President gives his jobs speech on Thursday. If all McIntyre and his fellow Washington Democrats have to offer is new talking points, instead of new pro-growth policies, middle-class families and small businesses in North Carolina will surely be disappointed.
