Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi Says Small Businesses Don’t “Have a Big Impact on the Economy of Our Country”
Washington — Kentucky Democrat Ben Chandler’s party leaders continue to demonstrate just how out-of-touch their priorities are as they push for more of the same big-government policies with little regard for their damaging effects on small businesses. Chandler’s Democrat leaders in Washington are making it clear they pine for the days when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker and they were able to ram through their failed agenda with little regard for how it would impact the backbone of the American economy. Are these the priorities that Chandler shares with his Democrat leaders setting the agenda in Washington?
“Ben Chandler’s Democrat leaders make it clear their main goal is to return Nancy Pelosi to the Speaker’s Chair so they can continue to push through their big-government agenda unopposed, without concern for the massive costs on the small businesses that are the backbone of the American economy,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Does Chandler share his Democrat leaders’ out-of-touch priorities that destroy the small businesses that middle-class Kentucky families are counting on for economic recovery?”
In a telling exchange, House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi dismissed criticism of the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare, saying the small businesses feeling the most pain won’t “have a big impact on the economy of our country”:
BARTIROMO: It’s too expensive if you’ve allowed 1,800 companies –
LEADER PELOSI: No, but they’re small. I couldn’t speak to all 1,800 of them, but some of the lists that I have seen have been very, very small companies. They will not have a big impact on the economy of our country.
(CNBC’s “Closing Bell,” 10/28/11)
At the same time, President Obama declared Pelosi was “was one of the best Speakers of the House this country ever had” and is counting on her return in 2013:
(Jamie Klatell, “Obama: Pelosi was ‘one of the best’ Speakers, will be back in 2013,” The Hill‘s Blog Briefing Room, 10/30/11)
As middle-class families in Kentucky search for signs of economic recovery, Ben Chandler’s Democrat leaders readily admit their policies harm small businesses with little concern. Chandler should specify whether or not he shares these same priorities with President Obama and Leader Pelosi.
