Georgia Families Can’t Wait for an End to Barrow’s Failed Stimulus Policies
Vice President Biden Claims Stimulus Did “Very Good Things for the Economy” as the Worst Employment Outlook Since January 2010 Looms

Washington — As Democrats across the country stump for a second wave of stimulus spending fueled by job-killing taxes, it is becoming increasingly clear that John Barrow’s original $800 billion stimulus has been an abject failure. As increasing numbers of layoffs loom ahead in the post-stimulus economy, job creators in Georgia are more concerned than ever that the only solution Democrats are offering is merely a retread of Barrow’s first failed stimulus.

“It seems John Barrow and his fellow Washington Democrats are just about the only people who still believe their failed stimulus spending spree has put the American economy back on track,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “The reality facing Barrow’s constituents in Georgia comes as they are still recovering from the $800 billion in taxpayer money that was wasted on the first stimulus, and they can’t wait any longer for Democrat leaders to abandon their talk of even more job-killing tax hikes to fuel another stimulus retread.”

Vice President Biden recently bragged about how successful the stimulus was:

“No. Look, here’s the deal. Nobody can look you in the eye and tell you that the Recovery Act and that stimulus did not create jobs and did not do very good things for the economy.” (Vice President Joe Biden, CNN’s “State of the Union,” 10/23/11)

However, the reality facing American workers is considerably different, with a new employer survey showing “the worst employment outlook since January 2010”:

“U.S. companies’ hiring plans reflect the worst employment outlook since January 2010 as demand slows in the world’s largest economy, a private survey showed. Fewer companies project payrolls to rise in the next six months compared with a July survey, while more plan to cut workers, the National Association for Business Economics said today in Washington.” (Shobhana Chandra, “Hiring Plans at U.S. Companies Slump to Weakest Since 2010, Survey Shows,” Bloomberg, 10/24/11)

The consumer demand required to drive job creation is also falling to its lowest levels since March 2009:

“Consumer confidence unexpectedly dropped to its lowest level in two-and-a-half years in October as consumers fretted about job and income prospects…

“The Conference Board, an industry group, said its index of consumer attitudes fell to 39.8 from a upwardly revised 46.4 the month before. It was the lowest level since March 2009.” (Leah Schnurr, “Consumer confidence tumbles in October,” Reuters, 10/25/11)

John Barrow and his Democrat leaders in Washington continue to remain in denial about the failure of their first $800 billion stimulus spending spree. A repeat of Barrow’s same failed policies will simply lead to the same struggling economy middle-class families in Georgia find themselves facing today.
