McNerney Votes to Endanger Over 300,000 American Jobs
California Democrat Sides With Obama Administration’s Red Tape Spree Instead of Common-Sense Regulatory Reform

Washington — Jerry McNerney once again sided today with the Obama Administration’s wave of red tape that is crushing small businesses at a time when they need help the most. Since the proposed Boiler MACT rules could destroy up to 337,703 American jobs, it is bewildering that McNerney would oppose a bill that would require the Obama Administration to rewrite overly burdensome regulations and allow some extra time to small businesses struggling to implement the costly rules.

“Jerry McNerney’s constituents in California expect him to help create jobs in Washington, but he did nothing but fight to destroy them today,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Instead of embracing reasonable, common-sense regulatory reform in the midst of the bad economy afflicting middle-class families in California, McNerney again sided with President Obama’s job-killing red tape spree.”

The House voted to have the EPA rewrite their costly and burdensome Boiler MACT rules in a way that would give small businesses more time and flexibility to comply with regulations without destroying jobs and hurting the economy:

“The EPA Regulatory Relief Act is similar in that it extends compliance time for commercial and industrial boilers, and requires EPA to take another 15 months to ‘re-propose’ four rules affecting boilers known together as the ‘Boiler MACT’ rules.” (Pete Kasperowicz, “House GOP to hit EPA regulations on cement, boilers next week,” The Hill‘s Floor Action Blog, 9/29/11)

These rules are estimated to threaten 337,703 American jobs and burden small businesses at a time when Washington should be helping them grow and create jobs instead. (Richard Fullenbaum and Brendan O’Neil, “The Economic Impact of Proposed EPA Boiler/Process Heater MACT Rule on Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Boiler and Process Heater Operators,” IHS Global Insight, August 2010)

Jerry McNerney decided destroying jobs and burdening small businesses with more costs was an acceptable cost despite the bad economy, and voted against the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011. (H.R. 2250, Roll Call #791, Passed 275-142: R 234-0; D 41-142, 10/13/11)

Jerry McNerney clearly has the wrong priorities when he votes to actively destroy jobs in California instead of help create them. McNerney today decided that supporting President Obama’s red tape spree in Washington is more important that protecting and creating jobs in California.
