Will Eric Holder Finally Explain Why DOJ Gave Guns to Mexican Narcoterrorists?

February 1, 2012

Democrats Have Dodged Questions About “Fast and Furious” Operation that Sent Guns to Mexican Drug Cartels and Used Scandal to Limit 2nd Amendment Rights

  • When Attorney General Eric Holder testifies before a House committee today, he will have fresh questions to answer about revelations that one of his top deputies was involved in Fast & Furious while Holder somehow remained unaware.
  • Holder will also have some serious questions to answer about documents showing that his department decided to distribute guns to Mexican narcoterrorists as part of a deliberate strategy to undermine gun rights.
  • Holder has been battling with his memory for months over when exactly he found out his Department of Justice was selling guns to Mexican drug cartels. The American people just want to know why the Obama administration thought it was a good idea.

When Attorney General Eric Holder testifies before a House committee today, he will have fresh questions to answer about revelations that one of his top deputies was involved in Fast & Furious while Holder somehow remained unaware:

ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER TO TESTIFY BEFORE HOUSE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE THURSDAY MORNING: (“Attorney General Holder to Testify Feb. 2 on DOJ’s Response to Operation Fast and Furious,” Committee on Oversight & Government Reform, Accessed 2/1/2012)

NEW DOCUMENTS SHOW TOP DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OFFICIAL WAS INVOLVED IN PLANNING FAST & FURIOUS: “They show a top Justice Department official and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives acting director suggested illegally purchased weapons be allowed to cross into Mexico where Mexican officials would be waiting to arrest, prosecute and convict the gun traffickers. …

“Breuer ‘suggested allowing straw purchasers cross into Mexico so (Mexican federal police) can arrest and (the Mexican attorney general’s office] can prosecute and convict.’

“The e-mail author, a Justice official stationed at the embassy, said he thought that was risky because Mexico might not seize the weapons and a crime could be committed.” (Terry Frieden, “Justice Sends More ‘Fast and Furious’ Documents to Congress,” CNN, 1/27/2012)

BUT OBAMA’S DOJ STILL WITHHOLDING KEY DOCUMENTS: (Tim Mak, “Darrell Issa Threatens Eric Holder with Contempt,” Politico, 1/31/2012)

80,000 DOCUMENTS GIVEN TO INSPECTOR GENERAL, ONLY 6,000 TO CONGRESS: (William Lajeunesse, “Issa Threatens Contempt Proceeding Against AG Holder if Justice Department Fails to Comply with Fast and Furious Subpoenas,” Fox News, 1/31/2012)

Holder will also have some serious questions to answer about documents showing that his department decided to distribute guns to Mexican narcoterrorists as part of a deliberate strategy to undermine gun rights:

“DOCUMENTS: ATF USED ‘FAST AND FURIOUS’ TO MAKE THE CASE FOR GUN REGULATIONS”:“Documents obtained by CBS News show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) discussed using their covert operation ‘Fast and Furious’ to argue for controversial new rules about gun sales.” (Sharyl Attkisson, “Documents: ATF Used ‘Fast and Furious’ to Make the Case for Gun Regulations,” CBS News, 12/7/2011)

FAST AND FURIOUS GUNS FOUND AT MURDER SCENE OF U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENT, AT CRIME SCENES IN MEXICO: “In Fast and Furious, ATF secretly encouraged gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels to go after the ‘big fish.’ But ATF whistleblowers told CBS News and Congress it was a dangerous practice called ‘gunwalking,’ and it put thousands of weapons on the street. Many were used in violent crimes in Mexico. Two were found at the murder scene of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.” (Sharyl Attkisson, “Documents: ATF Used ‘Fast and Furious’ to Make the Case for Gun Regulations,”CBS News, 12/7/2011)

WHITE HOUSE SHOUTED DOWN CBS NEWS REPORTER INQUIRING INTO FAST AND FURIOUS: (Mark Hemingway, “CBS News Reporter Says White House Screamed, Swore at Her Over Fast and Furious,” The Weekly Standard, 10/4/2011)

WHITE HOUSE SUGGESTED CBS NEWS REPORTER WAS “UNFAIR AND BIASED” BY INQUIRING INTO WHY THE U.S. GOVERNMENT WAS GIVING GUNS TO MEXICAN NARCOTERRORISTS: “Finally, Attkisson notes that the White House is claiming that a thorough investigation of the scandal is unwarranted: ‘The White House and Justice Department] will tell you that I’m the only reporter–as they told me–that is not reasonable. They say the Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, the New York Times is reasonable, I’m the only one who thinks this is a story, and they think I’m unfair and biased by pursuing it.'” (Mark Hemingway, “CBS News Reporter Says White House Screamed, Swore at Her Over Fast and Furious,” The Weekly Standard, 10/4/2011)

Holder has been battling with his memory for months over when exactly he found out his Department of Justice was selling guns to Mexican drug cartels. The American people just want to know why the Obama administration thought it was a good idea:

HOLDER SAID IN MAY 2011 THAT HE JUST RECENTLY HEARD ABOUT FAST AND FURIOUS: “On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, ‘I’m not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.’ ” (Sharyl Attkisson, “ATF Fast and Furious: New Documents Show Attorney General Eric Holder Was Briefed in July 2010,” CBS News, 10/3/2011)

HOWEVER, NEW DOCUMENTS SHOWED HOLDER RECEIVED BREIFINGS ON FAST AND FURIOUS FOR AT LEAST A YEAR: “New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress.” (Sharyl Attkisson, “ATF Fast and Furious: New Documents Show Attorney General Eric Holder Was Briefed in July 2010,” CBS News, 10/3/2011)

U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL CLAIMS DEFINITION OF LYING HAS TO DO WITH “YOUR STATE OF MIND”:” ‘If you want to have this legal conversation, it all has to do with your state of mind, and whether or not you had the requisite intent to come up with something that can be considered perjury or a lie,’ Holder said. ‘The information that was provided in that February 4 letter was gleaned by the people who drafted the letter after they interacted with people who they thought were in the best position to have the information.'” (Matthew Boyle, “Eric Holder Debates Definition of ‘Lying’ with Congressman,” The Daily Caller, 12/9/2011)

HOLDER NOW ADMITS GUNS WILL BE USED IN CRIMES “FOR YEARS TO COME”: (“Holder Suggests ‘Fast and Furious’ Guns Will Be Used in Crimes for Years to Come,” Fox News, 12/8/2011)

MORE HOLDER: “GUNS LOST DURING THIS OPERATION WILL CONTINUE TO SHOW UP AT CRIME SCENES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER”: (” ‘Fast and Furious’ Guns Will Show Up at Crime Scenes ‘for Years to Come,’ Holder Says,” New York Post, 12/8/2011)
