North Carolina Democrat’s Stimulus Boondoggle Reveals More Failures as Dems Push for Round Two
Washington — Mike McIntyre’s controversial $800 billion stimulus package continues to reveal more failures, with the latest Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report showing that it will likely harm the economy in the long run. McIntyre’s signature plan to create jobs has been an abject failure, and now middle-class families in North Carolina will be paying the price for years as its astronomical price tag continues to stifle the economic growth needed to create jobs.
“Mike McIntyre promised his $800 billion stimulus package would create jobs, but this new non-partisan report shows that it will likely destroy them in the long run instead,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “With this failed record, it’s amazing that McIntyre would even consider yet another stimulus plan fueled with more job-killing taxing, borrowing and spending.”
A recent CBO report on the stimulus mentioned that any short-term gains in jobs were only temporary, and that the stimulus would probably be a net drag on the economy in the long run:
“CBO said that while the Recovery Act boosted the economy in the short run, the extra debt that the stimulus piled up ‘crowds out’ private investment and ‘will reduce output slightly in the long run — by between 0 and 0.2 percent after 2016.'”
(Stephen Dinan, “CBO: Stimulus hurts economy in the long run,” The Washington Times, 11/22/11)The continuing failure of the Democrats’ signature jobs package would help explain the record low approval numbers Democrats face:
“About 60 percent of voters said they disapprove of Mr. Obama’s handling of the economy, the highest on record. Just 34 percent approve of the job he is doing on the matter.”
(Corbett B. Daly, “Poll: Obama disapproval rating on economy at record high,” CBS News’ Political Hotsheet Blog, 11/11/11)Mike McIntyre promised that his $800 billion stimulus package would create jobs, but it seems the exact opposite will be true over the long run. These continuing examples of the stimulus’ failure will certainly weigh heavily on the minds of middle-class families and small businesses in North Carolina while McIntyre and his fellow Democrats continue to push for even more stimulus spending.
