More Surprises From Barrow’s Failed Stimulus: Embarrassed White House Tried to Hide Solyndra Layoffs From Voters
Georgia Democrat’s Stimulus Failure Put Politics Before Taxpayers After Wasting $535M of Their Money on the Now-Bankrupt Solar Company

Washington — As the stagnant economy continues in the wake of John Barrow’s failed stimulus, investigations continue to detail the wasteful and blatantly political nature of his signature jobs plan. New e-mails now show the panicked Obama Administration wanted Solyndra – the recipient of a $535 million stimulus loan guarantee – to postpone layoffs until the day after the 2010 election to hide this failure from the eyes of voters.

“Instead of coming clean with the taxpayers after wasting their money, John Barrow’s Democrat leaders in the White House frantically tried to cover their failures up,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “It is shocking that Barrow and his Democrat allies would even consider another stimulus package with a nine-figure price tag, rather that learn from their first $800 billion stimulus mistake.”

New e-mails reveal that the White House pressured the troubled Solyndra company to wait until the day after the election to announce layoffs in a blatantly political move:

“Solyndra, the now-shuttered California company, had been a poster child of President Obama’s initiative to invest in clean energies and received the administration’s first energy loan of $535 million. But a year ago, in October 2010, the solar panel manufacturer was quickly running out of money and had warned the Energy Department it would need emergency cash to avoid having to shut down…

“But in an Oct. 30, 2010, e-mail, advisers to Solyndra’s primary investor, Argonaut Equity, explain that the Energy Department had strongly urged the company to put off the layoff announcement until Nov. 3. The midterm elections were held Nov. 2, and led to Republicans taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives.” (Carol D. Leonnig, “Solyndra: Energy Dept. pushed firm to keep layoffs quiet until after midterms,” The Washington Post, 11/15/11)

These constant revelations demonstrate that Barrow’s first $800 billion stimulus was a failure that put campaigning ahead of the voters’ actual interests. As these stimulus scandals continue to deepen, the last thing Barrow’s constituents in Georgia want is the second stimulus Washington Democrats have been demanding.
