Dem Leaders Oppose Balancing Washington’s Budget: What Will Kissell Do?
North Carolina Democrat Will Soon Have a Chance to Vote for Meaningful Fiscal Reform to Stop the Endless Red Ink Washington — Although voters overwhelmingly support efforts to have Washington finally live within its means, Larry Kissell’s House Democrat leaders are already drumming up opposition to the upcoming vote on a balanced budget amendment. Kissell’s Democrat leaders believe requiring the government to only spend the money it has is unnecessary, despite the fact that they have skyrocketed the national debt faster than any other time in American history. Will Kissell break ranks with his Democrat leaders or will he continue to rubber stamp their spending spree which continues to place trillions of dollars in debt on current and future generations of North Carolina families? “Requiring the federal government to only spend the money it has seems like a rather simple request, but this is apparently unacceptable to Larry Kissell’s Democrat leaders,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Does that mean Kissell will join them by standing in the way of meaningful fiscal reform that would finally rein in the Washington Democrats’ record-breaking spending spree?” President Obama and his Washington Democrat allies have driven the national debt up faster than any other time in American history: “The latest posting by the Treasury Department shows the national debt has now increased $4 trillion on President Obama’s watch.
“The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Mr. Obama took office. The latest calculation from Treasury shows the debt has now hit $14.639 trillion. “It’s the most rapid increase in the debt under any U.S. president.” (Mark Knoller, “National debt has increased $4 trillion under Obama,” CBS News’ Political Hotsheet Blog, 8/22/11)Now House Democrats will be drumming up opposition to the balanced budget amendment in their caucus: “House Democratic leaders are urging their colleagues to vote against a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution when it comes up for a vote this month, all but ensuring its defeat.
“House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said that although he has supported a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget in 1995, now is not the time.” (Gregory Korte, “House Dems will block balanced budget amendment,” USA Today‘s On Politics Blog, 11/4/11)Larry Kissell’s Democrat leaders are trying to ensure that their spending spree can continue uninterrupted, stifling the economy and driving the country further in debt to foreign countries like China. Will Kissell fall in line and oppose the upcoming balanced budget amendment or will he agree that the government should only spend the money it has?
