McIntyre’s Vote Endangers Medicare, Would Severely Limit Seniors’ Access to Care
North Carolina Democrat’s Vote Could Slash Medicare Payments to Doctors by 27.4 Percent, Resulting in Enormous Disruptions to Healthcare Access for Seniors Washington — Mike McIntyre continues to demonstrate that he is on the wrong side of seniors in North Carolina after his vote that could slash Medicare payments to doctors and severely limit Medicare beneficiaries’ access to care. McIntyre toed the party line and stood with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi, but seniors in North Carolina will be paying the price when they could be forced to leave their doctors and struggle to find healthcare options. “Mike McIntyre helped himself by allowing for a pay raise for he and his fellow Washington Democrats, but he hurt seniors in North Carolina with his vote that could slash Medicare payments to doctors and severely disrupt and limit access to healthcare,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “He may have been able to please his party leaders like President Obama and Nancy Pelosi, but McIntyre proved again that he does not have the interests of seniors in North Carolina in mind.” The two-year “doc fix” was voted on in the House on Tuesday: “The House voted 234-193 Tuesday evening to approve a payroll tax extenders package that includes a two-year ‘fix’ to the formula for Medicare payments to doctors.
“President Obama has threatened to veto the legislation, which is expected to die in the Democrat-controlled Senate on Wednesday. Without congressional action on the Sustainable Growth Rate, physicians will see a 27.4 percent cut to their Medicare rates starting Jan. 1.” (Julian Pecquet, “House approves two-year Medicare ‘doc fix,'” The Hill‘s Healthwatch Blog, 12/13/11)Mike McIntyre opposed the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act on Tuesday. (H.R. 3630, Roll Call #923, Passed 234-193: R 224-14; D 10-179, 12/13/11) Instead of helping create jobs and protecting Medicare, Mike McIntyre is toeing the party line with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi, even if that means severely disrupting and limiting seniors’ access to healthcare.
