Kissell Defends Healthcare Takeover’s Explosion of Spending
North Carolina Democrat Refused to Repeal the Government Takeover of Healthcare that is about to Bring an Avalanche of New Costs

Washington — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke testified Thursday that taming the exploding federal deficit should be a top national priority, just days after a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report warned of exploding costs from the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare Larry Kissell is committed to defending (Roll Call #14, 1/19/11). Despite the dire warnings about the need to confront the impending fiscal disaster, Kissell and his fellow Democrats continue to champion runaway big-government spending which will make matters far worse instead.

“Larry Kissell continues to make matters even worse by defending his record-setting Democrat spending spree that is ushering in a fiscal catastrophe,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “The only thing standing in the way of a return to fiscal responsibility that is necessary to avoid this economic disaster is Kissell and his fellow Democrats’ stubborn adhesion to their failed big-government agenda.”

The new CBO report reveals healthcare spending under the Democrats’ government takeover will explode in the coming years:

“…[S]pending on federal health care programs will more than double, from $847 billion, or 5.5 percent of GDP, in 2012, to $1.8 trillion, or 7.3 percent of GDP, by 2022.” (Philip Klein, “CBO report shows Obamacare’s ballooning costs,” The Washington Examiner‘s Beltway Confidential Blog, 1/31/12)

This was followed from dire warnings from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke that controlling debt “should be a top priority”:

“The worst case scenario — ‘which ultimately will happen’ without changes — in that borrowing costs would skyrocket as investors lose confidence, mirroring the kinds of panic currently being seen in European countries like Greece, Bernanke said.” (Josh Boak, “Ben Bernanke: Spending ‘unsustainable,'” Politico, 2/2/12)

Despite the dire warnings of a fiscal disaster, Larry Kissell has instead remained committed to supporting the Democrat agenda that is making the debt even worse. As Chairman Bernanke said, a fiscal implosion like the one currently happening in Greece “ultimately will happen” unless Kissell and his Democrat colleagues retire their crippling big-government agenda.
