New Survey Shows Independents Who Voted for Obama in 2008 Recognize Keystone Jobs and Energy Were Rejected for Political Reasons
President Obama Essentially Had To Reject The Keystone XL Pipeline Project In Order To Keep Wealthy Anti-Energy Donors From Fleeing In 2012:
“Democrats outside the West Wing and Chicago-based campaign say the politics were clear: With the exceptions of the grousing unions (who will have no choice but to support him in 2012), the party’s donor base, environmental advocates down to their hybrid SUVs oppose the pipeline.” (Glenn Thrush and Darren Samuelsohn, “Keystone decision a political win-win,” Politico, 1/18/12)
Even Voters Who Supported President Obama In 2008 Understand The Keystone Pipeline’s 20,000 Jobs And Energy Independence Opportunities Were Rejected For Political Reasons:
“Swing voters typically follow political debates from afar, but these voters are very familiar with the Keystone pipeline and President Obama’s decision to delay its approval. ‘I don’t understand why [Obama] opposes the Keystone pipeline. It must be because of the environmentalists,’ said a Denver man. They perceive President Obama as being more concerned about his support among environmental groups than increasing domestic energy production, which they believe can move forward in a safe manner.” (Glen Bolger and Haley Barbour, “Obama’s Likeability Is Not Enough to Win Back and Hold Independents,” Resurgent Republic, 4/12/12)
