Rahall Puts Jobs At Stake by Doubling Down on ObamaCare Heart Attack Tax
ObamaCare Provision Will Tax Life-Saving, Innovative Medical Devices

WASHINGTON — Today, Nick Rahall voted against providing the best possible healthcare quality to West Virginians and to destroy up to 47,000 jobs by choosing to uphold his party’s heart attack tax that is part of ObamaCare (Roll Call #361). This is yet another example of Nick Rahall’s unrelenting support for Obama’s big-government agenda that has killed jobs, cut half a trillion dollars from Medicare and increased healthcare costs.

“Faced with one of the most common sense decisions of his career, Nick Rahall pledged his allegiance to his party’s government takeover of healthcare,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “It is clear that not even the healthcare quality of West Virginians is off limits to Nick Rahall when it comes to defending ObamaCare. West Virginia families and seniors know that the only way to stop his assault on their healthcare is to get Kissell out of office.”

By voting to protect this ObamaCare provision that could limit medical device innovation, Nick Rahall is hurting important research and development that can Americans’ life expectancy:

“In an analysis that concludes that the tax will lead to a reduction in research and development by about $2 billion every year, Zycher estimates how many patients will suffer early deaths because of the throttling of innovation.”
(John R. Graham, “ObamaCare’s Medical-Device Tax Kills Patients, Not Just Jobs,” Forbes, 6/6/2012)

The Democrats’ heart attack tax could kill up to 47,000 jobs:

“Job losses could reach as high as 47,100, or 10 percent of industry employment if the medical device industry is unable to shift the burden of the excise tax.”
