Need for jobs knows no party
Given the political rancor that has little subsided since last November’s election season, it is refreshing to see a non-partisan effort moving forward to find jobs for the state’s unemployed.
Specifically, Foster’s Daily Democrat is referring to the job fair held Monday in Rochester. The fair was part of U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta’s "Getting Granite Staters Back to Work" effort. An earlier such fair was held in Derry, with more expected in the Seacoast and around the state.
The importance of these fairs is obviously jobs. And by all indications, Monday’s fair offered some hope for those seeking employment.
But beyond putting people back to work, such efforts are important because they ignore the divide of Republican versus Democrat. They put the emphasis on making the government work.
Guinta’s approach to the task at hand is also an attempt to show that Congress and government can do good things, in spite of public skepticism to the contrary.
Lavish kudos should not be directed at Guinta for doing his job, although it is refreshing to see a newbie to Congress getting involved so quickly, eschewing the traditional dictate of being seen but not heard for the first year or two in Congress.
