Why Carol Shea-Porter Lost in 2010

Carol Shea-Porter’s Super PAC hypocrisy tour continues. As Seacoast Online reports, yesterday Shea-Porter told Hampton Democrats she is “calling for all Super PACS to stay out of the state and their race,” and that her so-called proposal includes all Super PACs, even ones that support her.

Amazingly, this comes just days after Shea-Porter made it official that she believes Super PACs engaging in negative ground activities and election persuasion is just fine – since that’s what the Super PAC CREDO is doing to attack her opponent.

Say what?! Let’s review what Shea-Porter has said:

Friday, January 20th: “ Is there anything we can do to stop it in the general election this year?… Ask candidates if they will support legislation to take this kind of money out of politics.”

Sunday, May 13th: “Just stay off the airwaves,” Shea-Porter said. “I don’t care what they do on the ground,” but, she said, advertising should be off limits, as should automated telephone calls.”

Wednesday, May 16th: “Shea-Porter told Hampton Democrats she recently called on Guinta to join her in calling for all Super PACS to stay out of the state and their race this time around… Shea-Porter said her suggested ban includes all Super PACs, even ones that support her.”

As you cover the Carol Shea-Porter’s latest attempt to have it both ways on Super PACs, consider the following quote:

NRCC Comment: “First, Shea-Porter wrote an op-ed saying candidates should vow to support legislation that would get rid of Super PACs. Then she is silent for four months while a Super PAC attacks her opponent on her behalf. Next, she says Super PACs engaging in negative ground activities and election persuasion is just fine. Now she’s on the campaign trail telling supporters she has proposed to ban them all together. Shea-Porter’s continued hypocrisy and doublespeak on Super PACs is reminding Granite State voters why they sent her packing in 2010.” –NRCC Spokesman Nat Sillin
